The togolese mangroves are disappearing

     The surface of the mangroves which was 4000 hectares in 1988, passed to 2000 hectares in 1995 and to 800 hectares only in 2004, that is to say a disappearance of more than 4/5 of the total surface of mangroves. The new organic cotton project of ANCE

   In Togo, more than 200,000 people are occupied in the cotton sector. Cotton is an important export exchange earner. Cotton in Togo is grown in the Centre and North of country on farms with an average land area of 5 hectare. The producer price in Togo is decreasing since several years and dropped further from 175 FCFA/kg of cotton seed in 2004-05 to 160 FCFA in 2005-06. As a result of price decreases and reduced production volumes, the cotton income in Togo decreased by 60% between 2004-05 and 2005-06.more information ...
